Fishing shoes of Japanese design and manufacture (also called tabi's) have been popular in Hawaii for many decades. Recent designs are more comfortable and do a better job of keeping sand out of the shoe. Two different popular styles are shown below.

The GUMI fishing tabi offers a more conventional look without the split toe. Additionally, the sides are more like 2-3mm wetsuit material with stitched seams. This shoe also has a plastic felt sole. Sizes 1-12 available - really!

The "Hawaiian Angler Felt Sole Tabi" is more of a traditional shaped Japanese fishing shoe . It has a split toe and flexible sock-like instep and ankle sections. The remainder of the shoe is durable black rubber with plastic felt sole on the bottom. The split toe style of shoe is surprisingly comfortable if you haven't tried this style before. Sizes: S (25 cm; men's 7); M (26 cm; men's 8); L (27 cm; men's 9 1/2); XL (28 cm; men's 10 1/2); XXL (29 cm; men's 11 1/2); XXXL (30 cm; men's 13).
