Fishermen need to know about the tides and the moon phases in order to plan their activities. Fortunately there's a wonderful free tide and moon phase prediction program for Windows called "WXTide32". It can predict tides from 1970 through 2037! The program is very easy to use and can be applied to all parts of the Big Island through local tide prediction stations. Here's how to set it up for Hilo. First download and install the program, then bring it up. Now choose File, then Location. The program contains tide station information from all over the world, so in order to locate Hilo, choose "Only stations in State" and then pick Hawaii from the drop-down listing. Then below that, Sort stations alphabetically. Go down the list, click on Hilo and close the window. At this point, there are many different options to choose from regarding the color display, how many days to show on the screen (done by adjusting the Horizontal aspect in the Preferences screen; 0.35 is good), showing the moon phases, and so forth. Enjoy playing with the program and good fishing! |
